About
In a precarious age, Move Forward strives to maintain a positivity and self-reliance seldom found in today’s now-here-fast society. Not satisfied to simply be a posi-core band, the members of Move Forward look to build on the message and community set down by bands such as Minor Threat, H2O, BANE and With Honor. Based out of the small and gritty Phoenix, AZ hardcore scene, the band has been spreading their DIY ethic and posi-ethos since 2008, starting with that year’s Progression Demo. Highlighted by vocalist Brent Duncan’s angst-filled and outraged lyrics, firmly anchored by Tyler Sargent’s melodic guitar and rooted in Jake Stevens’ drumming and Ben Saunders’ rhythm, the following year saw the release of Get Us Outta Here. Featuring six tracks that broadened their lyrical base and sound by asking questions of our educational system and industrialization, the release further cemented their message of positivity and perserverence.
Providing them with their busiest year yet, 2010 found Move Forward sharing the stage with hardcore stalwarts Shai Hulud, BANE, Outbreak and Ruiner, as well as up and coming acts such as The Menzingers, The Swellers, Living With Lions, A Wilhelm Scream, Cobra Skulls, The Flatliners, Make Do and Mend and Heartsounds. After playing dates in nearby California, Nevada and New Mexico, that September, the band
completed the Cost of Living 7″, a conceptual three tracks based on the struggle to find yourself, and happiness, without compromise. They quickly followed the release with a two week tour to support it, with
Phoenix hardcore heavyweights Red Son.
With yet another new year underway, Brent, Tyler and Ben saw the departure of founding member Jake Stevens. While sad to see a part of their family move on to different things, the three enthusiastically added Jesse Mitchell on drums and Nick Florence on guitar to the mix. With the new blood came renewed excitement and a new direction. As summer approaches, the now five piece Move Forward will head into Griffin Kolinski’s Hour Glass Studio to record what will be their heaviest, darkest and angriest release yet. As singer Brent Duncan puts it, “We want people to know that pessimism and anger don’t have to be synonymous; we’re angry about the way things are going, but positive and hopeful of the future.” Once out of the studio, the band will head out on a nation wide tour, once again with their brothers in Red Son, to show everyone just what they mean.
Get Us Outta Here (2009)
Get Us Outta Here by Move Forward
Arizona brings it to the table when it come to hardcore punk rock. Life in Pictures, Hour of the Wolf, to name a couple, and now, Move Forward. These guys know how to right a great song, and with this EP they did just that (six times to be exact).

This EP sounds like if Champion, Verse, Have Heart and Bane had a circle jerk and this was the end result.

The Cost of Living (2010)
The Cost of Living by Move Forward
Hace poco conocí esta banda y me pareció genial, tocan Hardcore Melódico de ritmo acelerado y voz gritona, algo así como Anchors o A Wilhelm Scream, pero en versión más Hardcore, llegando a parecerse a Ruiner por momentos.
-Screaming-Fastcore
They’re right up my alley with their lumberjack coated punk rock… frantically awesome
